Year 3

Joanne GRAINGER

I returned to Hong Kong 10 years ago to work for ESF, having spent most of my childhood here. I have worked in several ESF schools as a class teacher, and in more recent years have been working in a range of Special Educational Needs roles. Prior to returning to Hong Kong, I trained and worked as primary teacher in the South West of England. Discovery Bay has been my family’s home for the last few years, and we love the outdoor lifestyle here; but we also enjoy exploring the diversity of experiences that the rest of Hong Kong has to offer.

Sarah MCDAVID

I’m so thrilled to be back at Discovery College full-time! I have spent the past four years as a supply teacher here in DC while enjoying the extra time at home raising my two young children. My husband Kevin and I first joined DC in 2012. We have loved watching former students move upward through the school and are now proud DC parents. Originally from Canada, I’ve been teaching internationally for 14 years now.

David NANGLE

I am from the Emerald Isle of Ireland where the grass is green, the rain is plentiful and the hills seem to roll on forever! I moved to the UK as a young man and became a teacher before emigrating to the hot and sunny United Arab Emirates. Having taught for a number of International schools and projects in the Middle East, my outlook on teaching has always been positive, inclusive and culturally diverse. As I love to travel and experience new cultures, I made the move to Hong Kong and found my passion teaching IB to primary students. Outside of school, my hobbies include going to the gym, playing football (the kind we play in Ireland) and golf.

Carmel HANLON

I am originally from Melbourne, Australia. I have been teaching for many years and in many locations in Melbourne, London, Tokyo and now Hong Kong. I feel very fortunate to have had such an interesting and rewarding career and to further extend these experiences as a teacher at DC.

Isvarya GOWTHAMAN

I was born and brought up in Salem, a city in South India. I married the love of my life in 2008 and we moved to Hong Kong in 2012 after living in Singapore for four years. I am a mother of two lovely kids – a son and a daughter. I have always been passionate about teaching and when I took up this role, I realised that this is where my heart lies. I love the DC community, it’s positive and vibrant culture, and I would like to make a difference in the lives of students. I enjoy reading books, listening to music and watching movies.

Barbara HAUPTFLEISCH

I am originally from South Africa but Hong Kong has been home for many years now. I have a teenage daughter and son, both born in Hong Kong and both have attended Discovery College from the beginning of their school career. I have enjoyed being involved with Discovery College as a parent when my kids were little, and now as an EA. In my free time I like to volunteer at a dog rescue shelter, read, travel and watch my kids play rugby.

Ivy JIANG

My name is Jiang Linmin, and I come from Chongqing-the hometown of hotpot in China. I’m passionate for education and enjoy being with kids. In my free time, I usually travel and read, and sometimes I draw and cook. It is very exciting to be in such a great team in Discovery College.
