Around DB is launching The Word, a magazine feature-writing competition for DB and Lantau secondary-school students. From the articles submitted, three mentors, Karmel Schreyer, Lauren Gordon and Lori C Tighe, will each select a winning story and work on improving it with the author. The three finished articles will then be posted on www.arounddb.com and facebook.com/AroundDB for an online vote.

The topic is Life in DB/ on Lantau Island and the article should be between 600 and 700 words. The submission deadline is February 23. There will be prizes for the first-, second- and third-place winners.

What for: Well being of the students of Discovery College - recent items supported by the PTA have included swimming pool cover, student peer support program, library and robotics centre equipment.
Prizes:

First Prize: 7 Nights Accommodation in a Two-bedroom unit for 2 adults and 2 children (not valid for Christmas, New Year, CNY, Easter and Songkran) to be used by 30 June 2013 at any one of; (1) Absolute Nakalay Beach Resort in Phuket or (2) Twin Sands Resort & Spa in Phuket (available from 2013) & (3) The Beach in Samui (available from 2013) ? Value: HKD17,500

Second Prize: iPad with WiFi32GB - White and HK$3,500 of HMV Vouchers ? Value: HKD8,486

Third Prize: 3 Nights Accommodation at Villa Umah Nyepi near Ubud in Bali for 6 people, to be used by 19 Dec 2012 (not valid 13 – 26 Aug 2012) ? Value: HKD8,000
